Pine Knoll Design Build
Pine Knoll Design Build was a design/build program designed for fellow first-year architecture students at the University of Washington. The program was a twofold response to our remote Covid-19 year. It sought to familiarize students with tangible materials, construction techniques, and with each other. Together we built the studio community missing from our isolated, on-line year.
The design/build was divided into two distinct parts. The first reinterpreted our former “digital zoom windows” through the construction of individual, tangible frames in a landscape. The second part saw the collaborative design and construction of a shading device where we could gather during the hot days of August.
“…a conviction in PKDB’s mission of collaborative handwork, craftsmanship, materiality, and a rediscovery of a connection to a physical place and to one another…”
